YEFF & HOPPER

I met photographer Ben Hopper in 2011. Ben is known for his intimate study of circus performers and dancers, artistic nudes, and documentary work on controversial subject matters.

Since 2011 we have developed together with the collaborative project Yeff and Hopper. The core of the project is the concept of empowerment, through design, participation and documentation.

In 2014 as a part of the exhibition, Attention. Deficit. Order, we conceived a participatory piece titled ‘The Circle of Naked’. We invited members of the public to partake in a group body painting performance.

There were over fifty women, men and children in the group, each contributing to and interacting with painting in a uniquely physical way. Our participant collaborators were affected by the marks we applied to their skin. Some became shy, while others felt inspired to embody a new persona; performing a bigger, bolder role within the performance than their non-painted selves may have.
